Badwell Ash Parochial Church led this project to restore the historic turret clock at St Mary’s Church.

St Mary’s Church in Badwell Ash, Suffolk is a Grade I listed building whose turret clock served as a timepiece for villagers, many of whom worked in the fields and relied on its quarter hour striking mechanism to tell the time.

The turret clock had been in operation for 300 years until it stopped working in 2011. The project restored the clock to good working order and installed improved access to allow visitors to see the clock in action. A new website was created to host videos of the restoration work and the Badwell Ash local history society carried out research which created an exhibition that helped people to learn about the clock’s history.

Children created a time capsule which was installed within the floor of the clock tower. Guided tours were given at an opening ceremony and a talk was given by the clock restorers.
