This project aimed to rejuvenate the landscape at the Durham World Heritage Site and engage the public in the conservation programme.

The woodlands and the riverbanks around Durham Cathedral had become over-mature and in need of substantial rejuvenation. This project involved conserving the woodland setting, implementing woodland management proposals and increasing the biodiversity of the woodlands.

The area is believed to be a planned landscape, which dates back to the 18th century. It forms part of the wider Durham Riverbanks, known as Necklace Park, and contains important features including Prebends Bridge and the Count’s House.
