The grant was awarded for restoration and interpretation works to Darlow’s Farm, which joins on to the Woodwalton Fen National Nature Reserve.

The nature reserve is one of only three remaining fragments of our fenland natural heritage, and is recognised as a globally important wetland. This project formed the important early stage of the Great Gen Project, which aims to transform the landscape of the Fens between Peterborough and Huntingdon.

The nature reserve contains a variety of important habitats that support many rare species. The conservation works were designed to improve the ecology and wildlife interest of the site, and the wider nature reserve. The restoration of Darlow’s Farm was designed to address the threat of drainage and global warming issues, and enhance the nature reserve, with the ultimate aim of creating benefits for people and wildlife.
