Restoring and enhancing three linked town centre parks in Gosport: Falklands Gardens, Bastion No.1 and Walpole Park.

The project focused on protecting and restoring features, which reflect the historic origins of the parks. Improvements included refurbishing footpaths and lighting, providing visitor information, and improving the quality and safety of entrances.

These parks are the historic legacy of the 1660s, when the original Gosport Lines were built to enclose the town and protect it from enemy attack. Bastion No.1 was not part of the original Gosport Lines but was built later in 1779 on land owned by the Bishop of Wincheste. Bastion No.1 is now a scheduled ancient monument.

A boathouse/café was built in Walpole Park, replacing wooden huts. This was designed to provide facilities for park users, a home for the model yacht club, and other facilities that weren’t previously available in the park.
