This three-year project aims to conserve the natural and cultural heritage of Bretton’s Ancient Woods, and the woodland heritage skills associated with their historical use.

Local people will be able to play an active role in managing the woods and improving access and understanding of the local area.

Bretton Woods is a semi-natural ancient urban woodland to the east of Peterborough. The project will focus on the wildlife and species habitat, the history of the sites and the traditional crafts and skills related to managing these woodlands.

The project will see the reintroduction of traditional woodland management skills, which will provide a platform for local wood turners, green wood workers and carvers to share their skills and support the sustainable management of the woods.

A programme of learning activities will also be introduced around the three themes of conservation, heritage skills and woodland history.
