The project aims to bring together several generations of South Asians living in Bristol to identify and record their heritage. Desh means Motherland or Homeland in Hindi and Urdu.

Desh recruited young British Asian volunteers to collect traditional South Asian folk songs, poetry and stories from the childhood memories of the older generations.  The volunteers developed skills to deliver the project through targeted workshops in interviewing and research.  The project collected oral histories which shared experiences of this multicultural Bristol heritage.

Through a large scale touring exhibition held in partnership with Bristol Museums Galleries and Archives, people learnt about the heritage of South Asians in the south west.  The project is reaching more people by touring to other locations in the south west including the Plymouth Mela and Swindon Libraries.
