The distinctive Roundhouse is an iconic landmark building in Derby. The site has now been converted for use by Derby College, to provide a central, easily accessible campus.

The Roundhouse complex is of national importance as the most substantial survival of first generation railway workshops in the Midlands. The site, in central Derby, was previously disused and all the buildings, except one, were at risk.

Derby College worked to convert the area for college use and a new link building was added. The Roundhouse is now freely accessible for all and the site has been landscaped, with footpaths and cycle routes linking it to the city centre. The project has provided access to buildings previously closed to the public as well as providing 2,500 students with a centrally located campus.
