The Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre on the Jurassic Coast has been extended, allowing more people to interact with the heritage of this World Heritage Site.

The Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre is one of six visitor centres along the Jurassic Coast. The Centre is an independent educational charity, housing fossil collections and providing a varied, year-long programme of events.

Recognising the poor safety awareness of the general public when fossil hunting, the centre wanted to extend its existing building to create an education space. They aimed to raise visitors’ awareness of the dangers of fossil hunting, while providing information on the region’s geology and history.

The project included extending the existing centre, creating an exhibition and education room and installing an accessible ramp.

The centre can now accommodate over 100 school children, or 120 visitors at a time. The extended room can also now be used for non-heritage causes, enhancing the centre’s sustainability.
