Body Positive has recorded and digitised the memories of the LGBT+ community in Cheshire, saving their legacy for future generations.

Body Positive is a charity providing comprehensive services on sexual health advice, education and STI prevention in Cheshire.

From Prejudice to Pride – The Later Years, is a continuation of a Cheshire Archive's LGBT+ Hidden Histories project funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The project originally spanned the 16th century to the 1960s and has now been updated to include Cheshire's LGBT+ history from the 1970s to the present.

A physical exhibition showcasing the more recent histories, collected by Body Positive, was cut short due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Body Positive was awarded a £47,000 from the Heritage Fund’s National Lottery Grants for Heritage.

From Prejudice to Pride – The Later Years managed to:

  • collect stories from the LGBT+ community in Cheshire from the 1970s to the present.
  • put special emphasis on themes such as the impact of HIV and AIDS, the development of aversion therapy and social campaigning.
  • record oral histories of members of the Silver Rainbows older people's LGBT network.
  • create short films exhibited at local libraries in Cheshire.
