Voted Scotland ‘s Greatest Scot and known in his home country simply as ‘the Bard’, it is thanks to National Lottery funding that Robert Burns now has a museum worthy of his international status.

Robert Burns is one of the most celebrated figures in Scottish culture. His enduring legacy and humanitarian values have introduced people in all corners of the world to Scotland’s heritage, the Scots language and to the unique living tradition of the Burns Supper. The Burns Birthplace Museum offers a comprehensive encounter with the poet. It links together previously disparate sites, such as the Burns monument, the Auld Kirk, the Brig o Doon and the cottage where Burns was born, with a new 1,600m2 museum and education pavilion.

The new museum was awarded five-star Visitor Attraction status within a record short time of opening and has received numerous architecture and design awards. Visitor figures jumped by almost 50% and over 5,000 people use its new education suite each year.

The Burns Birthplace Museum has brought a wealth of economic and cultural benefits to South Ayrshire and Scotland while bringing to life the work of Robert Burns for this and future generations.
