Our funding supported the creation of an education and information centre within the Great Court of the Museum, allowing access to this space for the first time since the 1850s.

Created at the lower ground and basement level of the courtyard, the Education Centre now provides flexible spaces for educational activities, allowing the museum to offer object handling and arts events. It also provides spaces for school groups including two auditoria, five multi-purpose seminar rooms and a 500-capacity lunchroom.

The central Reading Room on the ground floor was transformed to accommodate a public Information Centre, while maintaining 300 seated spaces in a dedicated working area.

The courtyard – newly covered by a glazed roof – has become the main access point to all the museum’s galleries.
