This project explored the period between World Wars in Aylesbury through research and interviewing locals about their experiences.

Aylesbury Youth Action is a community group that runs activities to help young people volunteer in a wide range of projects. The young people involved in this project were given the opportunity to receive training and support in researching, oral history recording and journalism to create a professional magazine.

Participants developed questions around childhood, schooling, meal times, housing, family life, fashion, shopping, leisure and work and then used the information to create stories for the  magazine. They were involved in every aspect of crafting the magazine to ensure they not only engaged with the heritage but also learned valuable skills. The magazine was then distributed around the town and advertised through posters and flyers.

The feedback received from those involved indicated that the participants had an enjoyable time and learnt valuable life skills such as improved writing and researching  skills as well as gaining confidence.

Project participant, Millie, said: "It was a great experience with improving communication skills and interview skills, as well as design. It also helped improve our confidence with putting developing own ideas."
