Whatever the topic – be it the heritage of Chinese festivals, looking back at Manchester’s connection to West African textiles or exploring the lasting legacy of the Windrush generation – these are just some of the cultures our funding has helped to explore and we are looking for more groups to tell their stories.

As part of our BAME heritage campaign, we are publishing a series of blogs by individuals reflecting on their experience of applying to HLF and sharing stories of the heritage they explored.

This month, we feature a blog from Alfred Chung of the Wai Yin Society, who reflects on the experience of running his intergenerational oral history and research project Happiness and Joy at the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival, and how young and older participants can best work together to uncover the stories of the past.

Support for applicants

HLF recently awarded initial support to Coming in from the Cold: Raising the profile of BME communities.

The project aims to expand support to heritage projects led by BME community groups and to increase diversity in the archival records in the Greater Manchester region.
