In support of communities and people, the National Lottery generates close to £30million each week for good causes all around the UK.

From parks and museums to galleries and our great outdoors, funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has created a number of great experiences.

Here are a few wet weather suggestions for you to enjoy whilst you are out and about!

Ulster Museum, Belfast

The museum should be top of your list if you visit Belfast. Take a minute to learn about the vast array of historic treasures on display where you can see dinosaurs and even an ancient Egyptian Mummy.

Riverside Museum, Glasgow

Visit the museum to see exhibitions ranging from a huge stream train, to cars and even a skateboards. The museum, which is home to one of the largest locomotives in Britain, is also the place to see a huge suspended ‘velodrome’.       

Beningbrough Hall, York

This grade I listed building has an interesting story to tell. Built by a wealthy teenager, the mansion was occupied by the RAF during the Second World War and more recently re-invented into a country-house. Discover one of the most remarkable baroque houses in England.

Wardown Park and Museum, Luton

Step back in time and visit a wealthy family home during the Victorian period. Follow the building’s first residents through the beautifully preserved library, smoking and billiard rooms, as well as discovering the fascinating history of the diverse community who have lived in Luton.

Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter

Capturing the story of Exeter and Devon, the museum has something for everyone. From fine art to natural history as well as two special exhibitions – Sea Life and Into the Abyss- the Royal Albert Memorial Museum is one of Britain’s finest regional museums

Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester

The gallery, which contains about 55,000 items, is home to a number of collections ranging from watercolours and sculptures to wallpapers and textiles. Within the gallery you can also find the famous sculpture Genesis which was created by Jacob Epstein.

National Museums Scotland

Showcasing science, technology, art, design and fashion, the museum celebrates the scientists, engineers, artists and designers of the past, present and future. Take the opportunity to see one of the world’s first home computers, Britain’s oldest motorcycle and the world’s first bionic arm.
