HLF has vacancies for a Chair and a Committee member to decide on funding for the heritage that is so loved by local people and visitors alike. The successful candidates would join fellow decision makers to help us to open up our heritage for everyone to enjoy. The East of England has a vibrant heritage – from its museums, collections, parks and landscapes, historic environment, archives, industrial heritage, archaeology to cultural histories and community memories – and HLF supports projects of every kind.

Inga Grimsey, who is standing down after six years as Committee chair, says: “It’s been a huge privilege and pleasure to be Chair of the East of England Committee. The impact HLF has made in all areas of heritage in this time has been remarkable. Small community groups, large museums, volunteers, parks, the countryside and many others, have all benefited from National Lottery players’ money. The commitment of staff and committee members has contributed to this remarkable record and all aspects of heritage are now more sustainable as a result.  I will look back on my time with the HLF as one that has enriched my life and given me some wonderful memories of the fantastic and diverse heritage and people in this very special region.”

You can find out more about existing East of England Committee members by visiting our East of England Committee page. Some have professional expertise in heritage, others come from the community or voluntary sector, or have experience in economic regeneration, tourism, education or commerce.

“We are looking for people who appreciate the East of England’s incredible heritage and are passionate about celebrating and enjoying all  there is to see, experience and learn about,” says Robyn Llewellyn, Head of HLF East of England. “Committee members decide where to invest money raised by National Lottery players, and also play an important role as advocates for heritage in the local area.”

HLF funding in the East of England has supported a vast array of projects over the past 21 years, investing almost £440million in more than 3,600 projects. Recent highlights involving the East of England committee include projects to refurbish historic town centres in Bedford, and Wisbech; the restoration of Cedars Park in Broxbourne; a project that shares the stories within Essex Record Office’s sound archives; the acquisition of land to complete the protection of Norfolk’s best known nature reserve at Cley Marshes and to expand its learning space, and a myriad of First World War commemoration projects across the East of England. Anyone wishing to be considered for the position should contact Robyn Llewellyn or Karen Gracey, on tel: 01223 224 873, email: RobynL@hlf.org.uk.

Please email decisionmakers@hlf.org.uk if you have a query and would like to speak to someone about the recruitment process.

We welcome applications from people from black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, disabled people and young individuals who are currently less well represented across our committees.

Notes to editors

The committee is one of 12 across the UK. Each one meets four times a year. Chairs and members are normally appointed for three years in the first instance with the potential for a second term. The Committee is responsible for investing National Lottery Players’ money in projects ranging from £100,000 to £2million. They are assisted by the region’s staff of professional officers whose role it is to provide detailed or specialist advice, upon which the committee bases its decisions.

To hear committee members talk about their role visit our Board and committee recruitment page. Application materials are available on our Committee vacancies page.

Thanks to National Lottery players, HLF invests money to help people across the UK explore, enjoy and protect the heritage they care about - from the archaeology under our feet to the historic parks and buildings we love, from precious memories and collections to rare wildlife.
