The Science Museum begins National Lottery ticket sales trial

The Science Museum is out of this world with awesome exhibits like the spacesuit worn by the first Briton in space, Helen Sharman, which returned to public display in October.

And it’s thanks to National Lottery Players that this world-class museum attracts millions of visitors each year. It has benefited from more than £56million of National Lottery investment. So when National Lottery operator Camelot considered trialling the sale of tickets at sites that had benefited from Lottery money, the Science Museum was a perfect choice. 

Connecting play with good causes 

The Science Museum is the first national museum to trial selling National Lottery tickets and Camelot hopes to roll it out at other institutions in due course. It is hoped that by making tickets available at National Lottery-funded attractions, it will help to build the connection between play and the good causes supported across the UK.

Of course the Science Museum isn’t alone in benefiting from National Lottery investment. Without National Lottery players, the £7.9billion of funding awarded to more than 43,000 heritage projects over the last 24 years would not have been possible.

A very special thank you 

This Christmas, hundreds of National Lottery-funded attractions are saying 'thank you' by offering free entry, treats or discounts to anyone arriving with a National Lottery ticket or scratchcard from 3-9 December.

The Science Museum is offering players the opportunity to take part in a behind-the-scenes tour at any of the museums in the Science Museum Group: The Science Museum, London; National Science and Media Museum, Bradford; National Railway Museum, York; Locomotion, Shildon; and Science and Industry Museum, Manchester.

The tour will be given by a curator or museum director, and will include a ticket to an exhibition or commercial experience.

This is the second year HLF and the National Lottery have run a Christmas free offer campaign to say thank you to National Lottery players. In addition to heritage free offers, for the first time this year there will also be free offers at arts, sports and community venues – all recipients of National Lottery funding.
