North East is next up for a visit from our new Chair
The North East of England is home to some incredible heritage. On his visit to the North East Sir Peter Luff, our new Chair, will be visiting Auckland Castle, Barnes Park, Durham Cathedral and Beamish Museum – some of the region’s top heritage sites - to see the difference made by National Lottery funding.
On his North East visit, Sir Peter will:
- Take a tour of Durham Cathedral and hear about the Open Treasure project which is transforming the way in which the cathedral buildings are experienced, understood and used
- walk around the restored Barnes Park and its new sensory garden
- visit Auckland Castle which recently received a £9m HLF grant to transform it into a world class arts and cultural centre
- explore Beamish Museum including its traditional hardware and sweet shops and hearing about the Remaking Beamish project
It’s an exciting time for HLF. As well as welcoming Sir Peter to the team, we’re also celebrating our 21st birthday this year and of course continuing to fund a wide range of heritage projects across the UK. To date, thanks for money raised by National Lottery players, we’ve invested £342m that has helped preserve and share heritage across the North East.
The North East marks the fifth stop on Sir Peter’s visit to all 12 regions and countries stretching right across the UK. Next up is Wales.
