New North West Committee Chair attends Ordsall Hall opening

Susan kicked off her new role by attending the opening of Ordsall Hall in Salford, which has just undergone a complete restoration thanks to a £4.3million award from HLF.

Susan Williams, Chair of HLF North West Committee, said: “The project to restore Ordsall Hall perfectly illustrates exactly what I feel is important about HLF’s work in the North West. From the conservation of the fabric to the building, to the uncovering of lost aspects of the surrounding landscape, the support of HLF has made sure that this precious heritage treasure can be enjoyed by people from across the community for many years to come. I am incredibly excited by the opportunity, and I look forward to working with the North West team in celebrating and preserving our shared heritage.”

Susan has over a decade’s experience of working in Local Government, having been a Councillor from 1998 to 2011 and leader of Trafford from 2004-2009. She was vice chairman of the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities from 2007 to 2009, and was a member of the Greater Manchester Police Authority.

Susan has also recently been appointed as the director of the North West Rail campaign, whose aim is to ensure that transport investment in the North West is linked to maximising economic growth in the region and that capacity is increased around the 'Northern Hub'.

Before getting involved in Local Government, Susan worked as nutritionist for a charity that provided specialist support and therapy to sufferers of multiple sclerosis.

Sara Hilton, Head of the Heritage Lottery Fund for the North West, said: “We are extremely pleased to be welcoming Susan Williams to the committee as our new Chair. She brings a wealth of experience to what is already a very strong team of decision makers. Her wide ranging expertise and strong regional awareness will be of great benefit to both HLF and the heritage of the North West.”
