Made in Tredegar

Made in Tredegar

The project will give local people the chance to record and share their memories of the town.

Time Banking Wales has employed a part time Community Heritage Worker to lead the project and commissioned three talented local film makers to guide community members and groups through the process of making short documentary films about Tredegar’s heritage.

Jane Wilcox, the Community Heritage Worker, has a background in social history, education and community development.  The film makers are Kevin Phillips, a Tredegar film maker with a background in making heritage-based documentaries, Keiran McGaughey, a young film maker who has, with colleagues, started a new production company in Blaina and Peter Watkins-Hughes, an established film-maker who shares with everyone on this project a passion for Tredegar.

When completed these short films will be widely broadcast on sites like Youtube, Time Banking Wales’ website and on a number of new and emerging tourism sites. They will act as a digital heritage tour of the town. A booklet describing the sites will also be produced.

Jennifer Stewart, Head of HLF Wales, said: “Made in Tredegar will bring people together and capture, conserve and share their stories and memories about the town. This is a unique opportunity and we hope as many people as possible come forward to help make it a real success.”

Jane Wilcox , Community Heritage Worker, said: “I am delighted to be working on this Project – it was the people who lived, worked and struggled in Tredegar that made the town symbolic of the industrial, social and political changes that continue to effect our lives today. The people living in the town today now have the chance to tell that story themselves.”

The project is being delivered from a shop front venue at 4-5 The Circle, in the heart of the historic town.
