We are looking for heritage lovers to join our vibrant and friendly committees and help make decisions on where to invest funds from the National Lottery.

HLF has vacancies for committee members in London, Yorkshire and the Humber, Northern Ireland and Scotland and committee chairs in the North East and Yorkshire and Humber.

Our committee members are passionate about the UK’s heritage, whether it’s conserving an ancient building, supporting plans for a new gallery in a local museum, sprucing up a well-used local park or uncovering the history of a particular community.

“We are looking for people who appreciate their local heritage and care about promoting understanding and enjoyment of what there is to see, experience and learn about,” said Eilish McGuinness, HLF’s Director of Operations. “HLF’s committee chairs and members are the local people deciding where to invest money raised by National Lottery players. They also play an important role as advocates for heritage in their local area.”

There are 12 regional and country committees across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Each one meets four times a year. Chairs and members are normally appointed for three years in the first instance.

Investing in your community

HLF has supported a vast array of projects over the past 22 years, investing over £7.1billion across the UK. Recent highlights awarded by the regional and national committees include:

  • In Northern Ireland, Catholic and Protestant communities were brought together in the Killyleagh Remembers project, looking at the local impact of the First World War
  • In Scotland, £100m is being invested in natural heritage, including the creation of Scotland's largest urban nature park
  • In London, guitar legend Jimi Hendrix's flat was returned to its former glory
  • In the North East, Durham Cathedral has opened up 900 years of treasures to the public
  • In Yorkshire and the Humber, an HLF project is helping local communities to encourage salmon to return to the River Don
