Heritage postcard vote launched

Heritage postcard vote launched

Four images from two local heritage related projects will be whittled down to one from each through a public poll. They can be found online where you can place your vote.

Peterborough in Detail is one of the projects which has produced the images. It is a joint Peterborough Civic Society and Peterborough Photographic Society project to photograph and collate into a book the fascinating architectural details of the city.

The other project is 40 Years On, a Heritage Lottery Funded project in which local volunteers will catalogue and conserve the archives of the Peterborough Development Corporation.

These archives will form the basis of a fascinating documentary-style theatre production created and toured by Eastern Angles. This play will be performed in five venues across Peterborough during Autumn 2012.

The winning competition images will be turned into postcards which will be given away at the Peterborough Heritage Festival, taking place this year on the 23 and 24 June 2012 in the city centre and Cathedral Precincts.
You have until 18 May 2012 to make your choice, so get voting!

Peterborough has a rich heritage dating back over 5,000 years, with over 1,000 listed buildings, 230 locally listed buildings and 29 Conservation Areas.

Commenting on the project, Heritage Regeneration Officer, Alice Kershaw said: “These photos highlight some of the great project work going on in Peterborough. The city has a rich and fascinating heritage which is a vital part of the city’s identity and it’s important to promote what we have.”

Stuart Hobley, Development Manager, Heritage Lottery Fund, East of England said “Our heritage is all around us and this is a great way of finding out more about where you live. So cast your vote and decide which images will help to celebrate the city’s history at the Festival later this year!”
