As part of the centenary commemorations for the Battle of the Somme, all HLF First World War projects are being invited to design a memory square dedicated to someone who played a part in the battle.

The project, called The Path of the Remembered, invites people of all ages to create their memory square using photos, a drawing or a collage and a dedication of up to 150 words.

The square can focus on a relative, someone from your area/regiment, or someone whose story you want to highlight from your HLF project.

It should be uploaded to the Somme 100 path website by the 17 June. A postal option is also available.

The squares are being used to form an online gallery bringing thousands of stories together, helping us better understand the impact of the battle.

You can see a selection of squares that have already been submitted in this gallery.

They will also be printed onto ceramic tiles to form a temporary pathway in Heaton Park, Manchester before a commemorative concert takes place on 1 July.

14-18 NOW

The Path of the Remembered is part of 14-18 NOW, a major cultural programme to mark the centenary of the First World War which is funded by a £10million grant from HLF.
