There will be information about the First World War resources available at Skipton Library and groups from across Craven will be exhibiting their latest research on how war affected life in the towns and villages across the district. Family History experts will be on hand to help people trace their First World War ancestors, and representatives from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) will be there to advise groups on funding support.

Speakers are Marion Jefferies, a historian based in York who will talk on the foundation of the Women’s Land Army hostels in Yorkshire and Head of History at Ermysted’s Grammar School, Steven Howarth will talk on the time the Bradford Pals spent at the Raikes Road training camp in Skipton in 1915. The event is free, but talks are £2 each.

We are also asking people to bring in First World War memorabilia from home – medals, letters or photographs or other items. There will also be exhibits on show from the Museum of North Craven Life (The Folly).

The event will take during the Armistice Day commemorations on Wednesday 11th November from 6.30 until 8.30pm.  Entry is free, but there will be a charge of £2 for the talks.
