National Lottery Grant for Heritage

Restoration of the Windows of the Building 'Old School', Historic England Listing 1142369

Applicant: Blisland Parish Council

Project description: The restoration of the front windows of the Grade II listed ‘Old School,’ which was the first School Room for the Parish. The building is located within the Blisland Conservation Area.

Decision: Award grant of £10,000

Athelstan 1100's The Big Dig - Revealing Malmesbury's Story

Applicant: Malmesbury Town Team CIC

Project description: The project would actively engage the community of Malmesbury in the exploration of local heritage, particularly it’s Anglo-Saxon history, and promote the town-wide Athelstan 1100, the commemoration of King Athelstan, in the summer of 2024, by hosting a ‘Big Dig’ event. 

Decision: Award grant of £14,540

50 years of Cudham Environmental Activities Centre

Applicant: Woodcraft Folk

Project description: To tell the story of Cudham Environmental Activities Centre, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024. The project would create a heritage education room, to enable site users to explore the Centre’s history, handle artefacts, view the collection and listen to recorded oral histories, engage in a wider range of heritage activities aimed at young people.

Decision: Award grant of £29,203

The Discover Children's Story Centre Big 21st Birthday Bash!

Applicant: Pākiki Theatre C.I.C

Project description: To create a show and workshop for Newham's primary school children on the creation and legacy of The Discover Children's Story Centre, a cultural landmark for children and families. It will be produced for Newham Heritage Month.

Decision: Award grant of £33,347

West of England Nature Trail

Applicant: Bristol Natural History Consortium

Project description: To reconnect residents in the West of England to their landscapes and diverse natural heritage and build on recent, collaborative pilot work to develop and deliver engaging, high-profile events across the West of England in June 2024.

Fareham's WW2 History and Art Project

Project description: To bring school children and older people in the community together to research, record and share oral histories. To celebrate and commemorate, the local heritage of wartime Fareham.

Remembering South Hallsville School

Applicant: Eastside Community Heritage

Project description: To mark the 85th anniversary of the bombing of South Hallsville school through a collection of oral histories, an exhibition and a final event on 10 September 2025.

Decision: Reject

The restoration and maintenance of St. Mildred's Church, Preston for the benefit of the community.

Applicant: The Parochial Church of Elmstone with Preston and Stourmouth

Project description: The project would undertake the renovation work to remove the source of extreme dampness from the Northern and Eastern walls of the church and install a single accessible toilet and kitchen facility, enabling the church to facilitate and host a range of activities for the community.

Decision: Award grant of £52,974

Porch and Peals

Applicant: Kirtlington PCC (Parochial Church Council)

Project description: The project would repair and make safe the entrance porch of St Mary the Virgin Grade II* listed church and address issues of water ingress and ventilation. The repairs would also improve engagement with bell ringers across the benefice and wider Oxfordshire area.

Decision: Award grant of £55,014

Idea to institution, the history of artsdepot, its culture, people, their stories, and the context.

Applicant: The Arts Depot Trust Limited

Project description: To launch a new volunteering programme to celebrate Artdepot’s 20th anniversary in Autumn 2024. Volunteers would be supported by a freelance heritage professional to build a digital archive of stories and content for an interactive venue-wide exhibition. 

Decision: Award grant of £60,045

Moving Away Your Dust: Bicentenary of the Grosvenor Canal 1824-2024

Applicant: Westminster City Council

Project description: The project would engage with the local community to highlight the issue of rubbish and recreate the canal as it was in 1851 in virtual reality, working with schools and young people to create an oral history film and two animated films highlighting the deep anxieties rubbish posed in the Victorian era. 

Decision: Award grant of £74,418

Exploring the Future for Aston Martin's Heritage.

Applicant: Aston Martin Heritage Trust

Project description: The project would enable Trustees to undertake a feasibility study of moving to an alternative site compared to remaining in situ. The information will enable them to refine their vision and purpose, and identify the best, sustainable route forward.

Decision: Award grant of £81,000

Project description: To provide resource and specialist expertise to develop a financial and environmentally sustainable long-term business plan. To create a new operating model, to ensure long-term viability and management of the site,

Roof Repairs at the Grade I listed St Margaret's Church

Applicant: Stratton St Margaret PCC 

Project description: To repair the south side roof of the main part of the church building, the tower and the porch, to ensure it is watertight and structurally sound for the future. The completion of the work would support the church’s growth as a community hub. 

Decision: Award grant of £141,480

NHST Engagement Project: The History of HIV (working title)

Applicant: The National HIV Stories Trust

Project description: The project would build on previous work by the NHST, use engagement with the heritage collection to progress positive change for those living with HIV and their support networks, with a focus on gathering new historical testimony to add to the collection and to preserve it for the future. 

Decision: Award grant of £240,188

Consensus Trails: Discover Landscapes of the UK

Applicant: Community Events Consensus C.I.C.

Project description: The project would facilitate cultural exchanges between local and immigrant communities, building bridges between cultures and facilitating integration. Supporting the Moldovan and Romanian communities' knowledge of the UK's rich and diverse landscapes and cultural heritage.

Decision: Reject

Faversham on the Front Line 1939 - 45

Applicant: Faversham Town Council

Project description: Develop the knowledge and understanding of Year 6 pupils and the wider school community about the local impact of the Second World War. Exhibitions would highlight children's work inspired by project actors, artists, and historians.

The OC financial sustainability 2024

Applicant: St Day Old Church Community Interest Company

Project description: To ensure financial sustainability of the community facility, a performing arts centre and educational resource. To maintain the building as a heritage asset and comply with all necessary Health and Safety requirements.

The Conservation of Pollinators, from the Yellow Legged Asian Hornet, in Devon Version 2

Applicant: Devon Beekeeping Association

Project description: To fund the purchase of equipment to limit the spread of the Asian Hornet (AH) across Devon and the Southwest of England, protecting rural activities in Devon that rely on insect pollination. The funding would be managed by DBKA and divided between 11 Devon Beekeeping branches.

Project description: To offer local people the opportunity to learn about their ancestry and discover the positive aspects of family storytelling. To support local people in researching their heritage, narrating their family stories, and creating their family trees to share with future generations.

Applicant: Lost Text/Found Space

Project description: The project objective would bring the “Old Waiting Room” back into use through a programme of a range of arts and community activities. Working in partnership with the community, Network Rail and the Arch Company to build a strong local interest in protecting the space and restoring it for future generations.

Charivari Day 2024 British Folklore & Ritual Traditions

Applicant: Strange Cargo Arts Company Limited

Project description: To educate and raise awareness of British Folklore & Ritual Traditions, through the free community carnival Charivari Day 2024. To work with 800 young people, teachers, home schoolers, neuro-diverse adult groups, and different community groups to produce a carnival based on the folklore and tradition theme. 

Decision: Reject

The acquisition and restoration of a historic Gavioli fairground organ, a unique UK fairground heritage exhibit, and the two-year training and supervision of an apprentice to complete the restoration of the organ and its music.

Applicant: Gavioli Organ Trust

Project description: The acquisition and restoration of an 87 key Gavioli fairground organ built early1900s. Funding would also cover the full cost of a two-year apprenticeship.
