Our funding supported the creation of a new 10,000sqm wing to showcase contemporary science and technology themes.

The new wing, part-funded by the Wellcome Foundation, is home to science that explores molecular genetics and biotechnology, the brain and artificial intelligence, and information technology.

It includes temporary and permanent exhibition space, the Making of the Modern World gallery, a 450 seat IMAX theatre, a 250 seat lecture theatre, conference facilities, and catering and retail spaces.

The wing’s architecture and lighting was given significant thought, with the intention to create a “theatre of science”.
